Addition Strategies Year 3 Unit

Click here to preview this resource
Give Year 3 students a flexible toolkit for adding larger numbers. This complete unit explicitly teaches the split strategy, jump strategy, compensation and the written algorithm before students compare methods, explain their reasoning and check whether an answer is reasonable.
The editable 26-slide presentation provides five sequenced lessons with worked examples. Five colour strategy posters support classroom reference, while the Strategy Sort and Solve activity and Race to 1,000 game add collaborative practice. Eight black-and-white worksheet pages move from two-digit to three-digit addition and include matching answer pages. The editable 10-question quiz, two-page assessment, answer pages and five-level rubric provide a clear assessment pathway.
The unit is designed for approximately one teaching week. Teachers can use the full sequence or select individual posters, games and practice pages for small-group support, whole-class consolidation, homework or extension.
