Description

Help Year 6 students move from identifying clauses to deliberately crafting clear, varied complex sentences. This coordinated English unit combines explicit teaching, visual reference material, collaborative sentence-building, guided analysis, independent writing and formal assessment.

Students identify finite verbs, main clauses and subordinate clauses before exploring how subordinating conjunctions express time, reason, condition and contrast. They compare compound and complex sentence structures, investigate embedded relative clauses, practise accurate comma placement, and edit sentence patterns for clarity and effect. A flexible sequence of support, core and extension tasks makes the resource suitable for whole-class lessons, small-group consolidation, literacy rotations, homework or independent practice.

The editable presentation and quiz keep all lesson and question text as native PowerPoint text. The 34-page unit plan PDF contains a clean Table of Contents, two colour displays, five colour activity/game pages, eleven student practice pages, ten worksheet answer or sample-answer pages, a two-page assessment with two answers, and a detailed five-level rubric. Student practice, assessment and rubric pages use a polished low-ink black-and-white design for practical classroom printing.
