Description
Connecting Year 6 is a complete English unit that helps students use meaningful connections to deepen reading comprehension. The sequence teaches students to identify text-to-self, text-to-text and text-to-world connections, support them with evidence and explain how they improve understanding.
Students progress from recognising the three connection types to judging the quality and relevance of a connection. They compare strong links with surface-level responses, examine perspective and bias, synthesise ideas across texts and evaluate whether a connection genuinely deepens meaning. Fiction and nonfiction prompts give students varied opportunities to discuss, write and justify their thinking.
The unit combines a 20-slide editable teaching presentation, a 22-slide editable quiz, a 29-page unit plan, five worksheet sets, two classroom games, a display, a two-page assessment, completed exemplars, answer pages and a five-level rubric. It is suitable for explicit whole-class teaching, guided groups, partner work and independent practice.
