Counting On Maths Unit – Year 1 teaches students to begin with the larger addend and count on the smaller number to solve addition problems within 20.
The editable 22-slide presentation introduces the strategy, models examples, supports guided practice and prompts mathematical discussion. The editable 22-slide quiz includes 10 questions, each followed by an answer and explanation.
The 37-page printable unit plan provides a complete week of classroom material. Students use a strategy display, number-line mat, Boom Cards, caterpillar task cards, an interactive number-line garden, counters and the Count-On Quest board game before applying the strategy across nine worksheet pages and a two-page assessment. Eleven answer pages place red answers directly into the matching student response spaces. A marking rubric supports consistent assessment.
