Degrees of Language Formality is a ready-to-teach Year 5 English unit that helps students make purposeful language choices. Students learn to use audience, purpose, relationship and setting as four context checks, identify signals of register in vocabulary, sentence structure, greetings, sign-offs and tone, and adapt the same meaning for familiar, school and community audiences.

The unit combines explicit instruction with visual prompts, hands-on sorting, collaborative message rescue, sequenced worksheets and an authentic community-garden communication task. Cultural variation in respectful communication is acknowledged without presenting one style as the only correct style. The presentation and quiz retain native editable PowerPoint text, while all printable resource pages are professionally designed and classroom-ready.
