Mysterious Maps Year 2 Maths Unit

Click here to preview this resource

Mysterious Maps gives Year 2 students a carefully sequenced introduction to spatial representation. Students connect real places with bird's-eye map views, identify titles, symbols, keys and pathways, and build precise vocabulary for describing where features are located. They then follow and communicate routes, use turn language, reason about map design and create a clear map of a familiar room.

The unit combines direct teaching with practical classroom use. Colour displays and reference pages establish shared language. Map Talk Match Cards, Route Rangers, Turn and Travel and Build a Room Map support partner talk and hands-on learning. Seven worksheet groups provide progressive practice with playground, park, dot-grid, town, seating, campsite, school and room-map contexts. The original Secret Garden Map Mission assesses the same core skills in a fresh context, with matching answer pages and a five-level rubric.
