About this unit
Procedural Texts Year 2 gives teachers a coherent sequence for moving students from noticing how procedures work to creating clear instructions for a familiar audience. The editable teaching presentation models purpose, audience, structure and language choices. Students then apply the learning through displays, sequencing activities, a board game, supported feature analysis, comparison tasks, planning and imaginative writing.
The unit builds towards the Mini Nature Collage assessment, where students plan and write a procedure that a younger buddy can follow. Matching answer pages are placed immediately after the relevant worksheet or assessment page, and the five-level rubric assesses purpose and audience, structure, sequence, language choices and conventions.

Learning focus
Students learn to explain a procedure's purpose, identify the intended audience, compare texts on a similar topic, recognise title/materials/method structure, order steps, use precise verbs and supporting language, and plan, draft and edit a complete procedure.
Classroom use
Use the presentation for explicit teaching and shared discussion, the displays as reference points, and the Step-by-Step Race, Procedure Lucky Dip and Sequence Station for collaborative practice. The worksheet sequence supports guided, core and extended application. Finish with the Mini Nature Collage assessment and rubric. The full set suits approximately 5–8 lessons and can be adapted to a literacy block, weekly unit, intervention group or home-learning sequence.
