Recount Writing Unit – Year 2

Click here to preview this resource
Build confident Year 2 recount writers through a clear progression from recognising text purpose and structure to planning, drafting, rereading and editing an independent recount.
Students learn to set the scene with an orientation, place events in chronological order and finish with a meaningful conclusion. Focused lessons and practice develop past-tense verbs, time connectives, vivid vocabulary, noun groups, verb groups and conjunctions. A model recount shows these features working together before students move into guided planning, drafting and independent assessment.
The unit combines a 17-slide editable presentation, a 22-slide editable quiz, two classroom displays, three hands-on activities, nine worksheet titles, six matching answer pages, a two-page assessment and a five-level rubric. Colour teaching materials support modelling and collaboration, while worksheet, assessment and rubric pages use a clean low-ink black-and-white format for practical classroom printing.
