Full Description

Help Year 4 students understand how poets use purpose, form, structure, sound and playful language to communicate ideas, feelings and stories. This complete unit moves from explicit teaching and visual reference displays into collaborative wordplay and sound activities, differentiated practice, close reading, original poetry composition and assessment.

Students identify lines, stanzas, rhyme schemes, rhythm, repetition, alliteration, assonance and onomatopoeia. They interpret similes, metaphors, personification, imagery, mood and theme; explain responses with textual evidence; and plan, draft, revise and present their own poems. The editable presentation and quiz support whole-class teaching, while the print resources provide support, core and extension pathways for a well-rounded week of learning.
